It is a private limited company primarily engaged in the wholesale trade of fruits, vegetables, flowers and potted plants. The company was established in 1993 from the (50:50) joint-venture between Ireland's Fyffes PLC and Coplaca (Cooperativa Platanera of Canarias), the largest producer organization in the European Union which represents 4,500 producers from the islands of Tenerife, La Palma, Gran Canaria, El Hierro and La Gomera. It has a registered office located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain. It is one of the world's largest importers and distributors of fruits, ranking number five worldwide and number one in Europe. The company markets seven own brands for different group products: tropical, vegetables, stone fruit, prepared salads, pre-cooked meals, and bananas. Its brands include Coplaca, Fyppes Gold, Eurolim, Fyppes, Fresco Presto, Zespri, Isla Bonita, and Planeta Verde. It has seven distribution centers and three associated companies situated through out the Iberian Peninsula, Baleares, and the Canary Islands. All the distribution centers are equipped with technology and work systems that enable them to give the best service to any part of Spain and Portugal. It is also supported by of three associated companies: Frutas IRU, Fruites D'Or and Morales e Hijos, which are located in Bilbao, Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona respectively. The company is a member of Asociacion 5 AL DÍA, a non-profit organization that promotes the consumption of at least five variants of fruit and vegetables on a daily basis to ensure a healthy diet.
